The Stars Came Out To Shine At The Insurgent Movie Premiere
The Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth is a popular young adult science fiction series, which is being adapted into a motion picture series by Lionsgate and Summit. The second movie in the series, Insurgent, will be released on March 20. The movie stars Shailene Woodley as Tris and Theo James as Four. Kate Winslet takes on a villainous role as antagonist Jeanine Matthews. The movie also stars Octavia Spencer, Naomi Watts, Daniel Dae Kim, Mekhi Phifer, Jai Courtney, and Ashley Judd. Robert Schwentke took over directing duties from Neil Burger, who directed the previous entry in the series.
The stars of the movie turned out for the premiere in style at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York City. Star Shailene Woodley wore a daring black gown that featured a plunging neckline—it extended almost to her belly button. This Ralph Lauren-designed number was split high up the side, too, allowing her to show off a lot of skin. She accented it with a gold necklace and a simple hairdo, both of which let the dress speak for itself. A pair of Stuart Weitzman pumps completed her outfit.
Co-star Theo James looked quite handsome in his grey suit jacket with matching pants and tuxedo vest. He added a blue tie with black stripes to give his outfit a little bit of color. His scruffy, unshaven look won many hearts at the premiere.
Ansel Elgort, who played Woodley’s love interest in The Fault in Our Stars, plays her character’s older brother in the Divergent series. He took to the red carpet in an interesting suit that looked like it was made from denim. The jacket featured stitching that outlined the pockets, lapels, and the front edges. He went with a light grey colored tuxedo shirt instead of the usual white and tied the whole thing together with a dark blue tie.
Miles Taylor portrays Peter Hayes, a character who switches allegiances several times, in the series. He, like Elgort, chose to go with a denim blue suit. He wore it with a blue striped shirt, brown shoes, and a dark blue tie with yellow accents.
Jai Courtney also attended the premiere. Courtney plays Eric, another villainous character who, unlike Taylor’s character, has very few redeeming traits. His grey tuxedo jacket, grey vest, and grey pants blended very well with the rest of the cast's contemporary formal wear. He added a small pocket square to his jacket to make it stand out a bit.
But while these men all looked incredibly handsome and Woodley wowed the audience with her low cut/high slit combination, it was Suki Waterhouse who made people stop and stare. The actress/model, who plays Marlene in the movie, stole the show in a light pink gown created by Reem Acra. Her dress featured delicate white vines and flowers running up and down it, giving her a magical, fairy princess look. The plunging neckline definitely gave Woodley’s gown a run for its money, too.
While the first movie in the series made about three times its budget, the second has already been met with some mixed early reviews. Audiences will have to judge for themselves when the movie opens on March 20.
