On March 21, 2015, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) held its 26
th annual
media awards ceremony. These awards honor TV shows, films, musicians, journalists, and others who have fairly portrayed LGBT individuals and the community overall. This year, there were 144 different nominees across 31 categories. The ceremony was held at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. The winners, presenters, and attendees were, as you’d expect, dressed to the nines. Here are a few of the fashion highlights of the evening. [youtube]rjQLFnSxKlM[/youtube]
The 2015 Vanguard Winner – Kerry Washington

Peak Lapel Tuxedo by Jean Yves[/caption] Presenter Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia De Rossi made a splash on the red carpet. DeGeneres wore a classic
black tuxedo jacket that she paired with a dark blue shirt. But while the talk show host certainly looked good, all eyes were on De Rossi and her backless black gown that was almost see-through in places. It had a slit up to her thigh and a long train. Later in the evening, DeGeneres presented the Vanguard Award to De Rossi’s Scandal co-star Kerry Washington for her work in promoting equal rights for all. Washington, of course, looked incredible in her two-tone gown by Hellessy. The red top, which left her arms bare and had a plunging neckline that reached down to her waist, was complimented by the dark purple of the skirt. But most people will remember what she had to say during her speech. Instead of simply saying thanks, she spent her time on stage talking about representation in the media, showing exactly why she was receiving such an important award.

White Slim Fit Tuxedo Shirt[/caption] Brad Goreski, star of the Fashion Police, continued his tradition of wearing a very different type of outfit. In this past, he’s walked the red carpet in bright yellow and, later, a multicolored plaid. This year, though, he went with a simple brown jacket,
white slim fit tuxedo shirt, and black tie that, on their own, would have been very unremarkable. But then he added butterflies all over his suit jacket and pants. He definitely drew attention! Zoe Saldana, star of Avatar, Star Trek, and Guardians of the Galaxy, wore a form-fitting red number with a pleated-hem skirt. The dress featured cap sleeves that left most of her arms bare. She paired the frock with a pair of bright red heels that matched perfectly. Channing Tatum and his wife Jenna Dewan both looked great in black. She wore a short black skirt and a semi-sheer black top, while he chose a
black slim flit tuxedo with a white shirt and black tie. He wore traditional black tuxedo shoes, but she went with a pair of strapped sandals that left more of her foot bare. [caption id="attachment_2980" align="alignleft" width="191"]
Black Slim Fit Tuxedo[/caption] Finally, there’s Samira Wiley. It’s hard to find anyone from the GLAAD awards who could follow her look. The actress currently appears in Orange is the New Black, but her color of choice for this event was a dark purple. The long gown featured a slit up one side, letting her show off her intricate sandals. GLAAD will host its next awards ceremony on May 9 in New York.
