The 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards were held in October 2014, and each year the event puts hip hop style on display for the world to appreciate. While some traditional formal event staples like black and white tuxedos are often spotted, many of this year's fashions were more eclectic. Read on to review the top looks at the award show and find out how you can recreate them on your own.
Pharrell Williams
At the 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards, Pharrell Williams ditched his notorious Arby’s style hat for a slim fit, black tux with matching black bow tie. As one of the few
tuxedo styles to grace the green carpet, Pharrell looked suave behind his black shades. He also made his ensemble look slightly more casual by pairing his tux with a grey checkered shirt instead of the standard white dress shirt. This look is simple to recreate with a slim fit, two button tux and your favorite accessories.
Stevie J
As a green carpet correspondent, reality star Stevie J needed to dress to impress, and his black tuxedo with black bow tie didn’t disappoint. Of course, it wouldn’t be the Hip Hop Awards without adding a pair of shades to the ensemble. This stylish look would easily fit in at a black tie affair as well as mingling among some of the world’s biggest rappers and hip hop stars.
Aaron D. Spears
One of the most fashionable moments from the BET Awards was actually seen at the pre-award show dinner.
The Bold and the Beautiful actor Aaron D. Spears rocked the dance floor wearing a pair of gray slacks and matching gray tuxedo vest over a white shirt. The fitted look was one of the most dapper ensembles of the BET Hip Hop Awards weekend, and considering Aaron’s history on various “Best Dressed” lists, this should come as no surprise.
Shad Moss
Also making a fashionable entrance to the pre-award show dinner was Shad Moss, who was previously known as Bow Wow. The rapper and TV host arrived wearing a stylish, grey slack and 5 button vest combination along with a green tie. He accessorized the look with movie star shades. This ensemble is easy to recreate, and if you need to make it work for a more formal event or venue, matching
tuxedo jackets could be the perfect addition.
Big K.R.I.T.
Big K.R.I.T. offered the green carpet with a monochromatic look that was sophisticated without being overly formal. This all-black ensemble will be easy to recreate, using black dress slacks, black boots, and a black T-shirt. Top the look off with a black leather jacket and your favorite accessories, and you are ready to go.
Common
Despite his simple ensemble, Common easily made the BET Hip Hop Awards “Best Dressed” list. Wearing dark jeans, a sweatshirt, white shoes, and sunglasses, he looked crisp and ready for his onstage performance.
