The 2014 American Music Awards were held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on November 23, 2014 in Los Angeles.  This award shows recognizes the best artists and albums of the year. This year’s awards ceremony featured nine co-hosts and a number of different performances by artists such as Taylor Swift, Lorde, Nicki Minaj, Garth Brooks, and Mary J. Blige. In addition to the music, of course, everyone wanted to see what the stars were wearing. While some outfits were trend worthy, others might have been better left at home.  

Wyclef Jean

The former frontman of the Fugees showed up wearing a very interesting leather jacket covered with metal studs, patches, and other decorations.  It’s definitely a look that few people could pull off, but he didn’t look bad at all. His leather pants and simple white t-shirt accented the jacket well.

Jordan Sparks

This young singer walked the red carpet in a gorgeous rose gold gown featuring small sequins. The dress was cut low on the top and high on the leg, allowing Sparks to nicely show off her toned legs. She looked absolutely stunning.

One Direction

The British fivesome wore mostly all black, but they weren’t uniform. The boys wore everything from t-shirts to slim fit tuxedos. Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson wore suits similar to the Black Slim Fit Tuxedo – 2 Button Jacket with Notch Lapel. Harry Styles went with a more casual suit and jacket, while Niall Horan wore only a black t-shirt with a golden skull on it. In comparison to his bandmates, he dressed it down a bit, but the whole group wore their fashions with a confidence that was clear to everyone around. Ansel Elgort

Best known for his starring role in The Fault in Our Stars, actor Ansel Elgort wore a very classy black tuxedo jacket paired with a very unique pair of pants—they had a paisley pattern done in a gray-brown and black. The jacket itself looked a little too small for Elgort, buttoning well above the waste.  It looked very similar to a Black Polyester Tuxedo Tails Jacket but without the tails. He was definitely making a fashion statement with his look, and no matter how how you feel about it, it's always refreshing to see someone so unafraid to experiment.

Rita Ora

British singer/actress Rita Ora wore a stunning full-length bright yellow dress that had everyone’s eyes on her.  The dress featured a long train that Ora had to carefully manage throughout the night, but it looked incredible when she had it spread out behind her on the red carpet.

Nick Jonas

Nick Jonas, sans his brothers, walked the red carpet in a very nice black suit with matching black tie.  It was a very classic look that had many young women looking in his direction.

Diana Ross

Diana Ross is a hard act to follow, which is why this review ends with her sleek black dress that, by itself, would be a classic. However, it was her large feather shawl that stole everyone's attention. It showed off her larger than life personality, and it looked like she had fun wearing it. The American Music Awards included a number of other good (Lorde, Lance Bass) and bad (Skylar Gray, Zendaya) outfits.  These were just a few of the highlights.
