20th Annual Critic’s Choice Movie Award
The Critic’s Choice Movie Awards hosted their 20th annual awards ceremony on January 15, 2015. These awards honor the cinematic achievements made in the past year. The members of the Broadcast Film Critics Association vote on the nominees and then on the final award winners. While the categories have changed since the first ceremony in 1995, many of the categories are similar to those at other awards shows, including Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Picture.
Of course, many of Hollywood’s best and brightest turned out at the awards ceremony this year. Let’s take a look at what they wore.
Cuba Gooding Jr. Went with a classic look – a black tuxedo, black bowtie, and one of the traditional laydown collar shirts. He added a light grey scarf to his ensemble to help keep the chilly air off his neck.
Jesse Williams, on the other hand, decided to go with a much more relaxed look. He wore simple black pants and a black button up shirt. His plain look may have seemed too laid back for some, but he looked comfortable and happy with his choice.
There were plenty of women on the red carpet, of course. Rosario Dawson looked amazing in her Vivienne Westwood-designed dark blue gown that left one shoulder bare. She was nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy for her work in the film Top Five.
While you generally expect to see men wearing a men’s black tailcoat and matching trousers, Jennifer Aniston decided to put her own sexy spin on the look with her red trousers and matching jacket. She decided against wearing the usual button up shirt with it, though, which left her showing a good amount of skin. She was vying for the Best Actress award, although she lost to Julianne Moore.
Eddie Redmayne went with a traditional tux accented with some tuxedo accessories, including cufflinks. He was nominated for Best Actor for the Stephen Hawking bio-pic The Theory of Everything. Redmayne portrayed the famous physicist and author whose work has redefined the field of quantum mechanics.
Chris Hemsworth, star of the upcoming film Avengers: Age of Ultron, certainly drew the eyes of many women with his nicely tailored suit. He added some men’s formal wear jewelry to the overall look, including a nice silver watch. While not nominated for one of these awards, Hemsworth has picked up a number of other trophies for his work in the first Avengers film.
Ethan Hawke took a different approach and went with a light grey suit accented with black buttons and outlines. It was by Lanvin, and it really made him stand out. Hawke scored a nomination for the movie Boyhood, an innovative film that was shot over the course of 12 years using the same child actors to accurately portray their journey into adulthood.
Finally, because she’s very difficult to follow, this list ends with Angelina Jolie. Jolie, fresh off the premiere of the film Unbroken, received her first nomination for directing from the association. She wore a long metallic silver dress designed by Versace that looked stunning on her.
For those who missed the broadcast of the event on A&E, many pictures and video clips are available online.
