2015 Screen Actors Guild Awards
The annual Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony was held on January 25, 2015, at the Shrine Exposition Center. This year marked the 21st awards ceremony that honors the top achievements in television and film for the year. There were a number of outstanding performances during 2014, but only the best took home a statue. Of course, there were many well-dressed celebrities who attended the event just to support their friends and to have a great time.
Jim Parsons was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series for his work on The Big Bang Theory, plus the show’s cast was up for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy. While both awards went to others, Parsons looked great in a classic black tux. He chose to go with one of the traditional white slim fit tuxedo shirts and a black bowtie to complete his look. He may not have taken any risks with this style selection, but he definitely wore it well.
Viola Davis looked stunning in her slim, sleek white gown that left her shoulders bare. She walked down the red carpet as a nominee, but left as the winner of the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series award for her work in the series How to Get Away with Murder.
Actor Kevin Costner and his wife, model and designer Christine Baumgartner, were two of the celebrities who attended the ceremony simply to enjoy an evening out. Like Parsons, Costner chose a simple black suit with bowtie, while his wife made a bold statement in a bright pink dress that stood out in the sea of dark colors. Many expect to see Costner back next year as a nominee for his work in the 2015 film Black or White.
Gwendoline Christie was nominated along with the rest of her Game of Thrones co-stars for the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama. While they lost to Downtown Abbey, many people declared Christie’s bright red dress a major winner. The long cut of the dress, the bold color, and the satin fabric that shimmered when she moved all came together to wow the crowd. It was such a difference from the dreary costumes she generally wears on the show!.
Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson sported a grey jacket with black lapels, a look he matched with a black tie and pants. He was one of many of the cast members of the nominated show who attended the ceremony, but definitely one of the best dressed. His co-star Eric Stonestreet also went with a simple, classic look.
Many people were talking about Laverne Cox’s vintage-inspired latte-colored dress. Her gorgeous silk gown was designed by Johanna Johnson, and Cox paired it with Stuart Weitzman heels, diamonds, and a Judith Leiber clutch. After modeling on the red carpet, she got another chance to show off the dress when she and her Orange Is the New Black co-stars took the stage to receive the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy.
There were many other great fashion statements made at the ceremony, but these were a few of the highlights.
